What is Tajweed?
When considering Tajweed, the primary question that arises is why it is of paramount importance to recite the Holy Quran with Tajweed. Similar to any language, correct pronunciation and recitation adhere to the norms of its native speakers. Since the Quran is in Arabic, it is imperative to recite it in accordance with the Arabic method. Failing to do so might compromise the Arabic essence of the Quran and misinterpret Allah’s intended message. Even slight alterations in pronunciation can lead to significantly different meanings. The significance of Tajweed lies in safeguarding the precise meanings of the Quran’s verses.
In another verse, Allah mentions “Wartalna tartila,” underscoring the importance of reciting the Quran with tartila, which implies clear and measured pronunciation. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) stressed the significance of reciting the Quran as it was revealed, a teaching narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Masoud. Allah takes pleasure in the Quran being recited in the manner it was sent down, as noted in the Hadith.
Hence, Tajweed plays a fundamental role in ensuring that the Quran is recited accurately, thereby preserving its original meaning and beauty. By adhering to Tajweed rules, Muslims uphold the sanctity of the Holy Quran and convey its divine message with clarity and eloquence.
